Locatum as a company originated as part of Rederi AB Transatlantic from Gothenburg.
In the late 1970s, Transatlantic started a company called Trans Service Station (TSS) whose task was to supply its own tonnage with company owned lifting and lashing material.
TSS took over ownership of the material and internally debited the shipping company/ships per voyage. After the end of the voyage, the material was returned to TSS where the material was inspected and repackaged for the next delivery.
In 1983, a new, separate company was formed which did the same things, i.e. renting out & selling lifting and lashing equipment. This company was named Spanset Leasing AB. The financier & main owner was Spanset UK. In 1986, TTS was acquired by Spanset Leasing and in 1987, Spanset Leasing was acquired by Leif Axelsson who then changed the name of the company to Locatum AB. Leif was active in the company until 2017 when Mikael Axelsson acquired the company.
